An exercise in memory means establishing a relationship between the past and the present and carefully observing the events that took place in a certain time and space, with the aim of redefining and revaluing them in the present. This exercise is fundamental because it allows us to see what is exposed in our artistic and cultural activities and to direct them to the contextual needs of our universities and our territories. The work of discovering the value of memory at the service of the present, as a way of rethinking all the cultural potential that is housed in the universities, is relevant at this time because it allows us to recognize our processes, to show their impact on cultural education and to see how these processes have transformed the political and social landscape of our regions. When we hear talk of memory and the present, it is difficult to separate them and understand them as categories isolated from a whole wave of thought that has decided to take them as new spaces for action. Media memory has become increasingly relevant and transcendental in modern societies; that is why contemporary society demands of us a documentary construction of all human events. From this perspective, it seems appropriate to think of memory as a space constructed by different actors, agents and protagonists within a given cultural scenario. We present this exercise of memory of the IV National Culture Meeting with the aim of establishing a direct dialogue with the responsible actors, in order to make it possible to direct the artistic and cultural processes of the universities and the regions in a present with profound needs of impact and social transformation.Author Biography
